Mount Airy is the seat of a foothill county in northwest North Carolina and the childhood home of Andy Griffith, who used it as the model for the fictional Mayberry of his long-running television show. The town runs on granite, wine, music, and a working downtown — and every one of those threads is fully documented, with real itineraries and attraction listings, on the Tourism Development Authority's website.
This page exists so you can find the pieces of that story that overlap with municipal responsibility (Riverside Park, the Andy Griffith Playhouse building, the greenway) without having to pick between two sites. Everything else lives with the TDA.
